A Cubic VR is a 360 degree viewable panoramic image that is...

constructed with the use of a digital camera, a wide-angle lens, a sturdy tripod with several levels (because you need to be absolutely level when you photograph the images), and a special panoramic head made specifically for the model of camera you have.....

After you have taken the time to make sure your panoramic head that is attached to your tripod is 100% level, it then takes only about 10-15 minutes to actually shoot the photos you need to make a 360 degree panoramic picture, usually anywhere from 10 to 20 pictures per pano, depending on lens size, and other criteria.

When that is accomplished, you must then download the pictures to your computer, and go through each one, removing any imperfections you see, and possibly removing things from the background you don't want to convey in your final product, such as people, buildings or signs. Also, each initial image is going to be large in size, KB or MB-wise, you will need to knock them down quite a bit so the end product is not a 10-50MB pano, they need to be under 2MB, and if possible, under 1MB.

Lastly, after the above is done, you put the panoramics together using whichever Stitching software you have chosen to purchase. If your tripod was not 100% level, you won't come up with a good pano in this step, so it is important that you take the time to level - check, recheck, and check again when you are on location at the jobsite (or vacation site).

When viewing these panoramics, your computer MUST have the Quicktime Viewer installed - it is a free download from Apple Computer, and no, you do not need to view them only on an Apple computer, they will work fine on a Windows computer. There is a download link for this software in my 'Links' section - see the Quicktime Link' there.

There are several links to other websites featuring Cubic Virtual Reality work by other great photographers in my 'Links' section, by all means please check them out.

I have also scanned in several prints from around the house featuring our two cats, and some Formula One motorsports pictures I did when covering the Detroit Grand Prix in the 80's, as well as some Dirt Late-Model Stock Car racing photos I have done from here in the midwest, circa 1987-2004. I will be adding to these as time allows.

This website will be undergoing development all the time, as it is also a testbed for trying new things before using them on my corporate clients' websites, please check back often to see what has been added or changed.
